Playing in a musical ensemble can contribute to a student's development of team and community spirit, self-esteem, social interaction, self-discipline and leadership.
Through Mowbray's music program we aim to foster an interest in, and enjoyment of, music. For many of our ex-students, this early musical grounding has provided a foundation for their continued musical education and participation in ensembles through secondary school and beyond.
Our thriving music program comprises of band ensembles and string ensembles for all levels of skill from beginner to advanced. The band program is a school initiative co-ordinated by the Parents’ and Citizens’ Association (P&C). It has strong community and school support.
Performances and opportunities
Throughout the year, students in the music program have opportunities to participate in many different musical events, including:
- music camp
- school assemblies
- school and community concerts
- weekly band rehearsals (before school)
- band competitions
- community events and concerts
- workshops with external schools, such as Chatswood High School.
Every third year the senior string and band ensembles go on a music tour. Previous tours have been to Maroochydore, Dubbo, Port Macquarie and Orange. This is the highlight of their school life for many children.
